UNC Fans Sound Off as Bill Belichick Continues New England Feud With Bizarre Move: “Embarrassment On And Off The Field”

North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick continues to find ways to grab the headlines. The latest reason for which he’s hitting the dashboard is because of a report that says the coach has directed the program not to post anything related to his former NFL team, the New England Patriots.

According to CBS Sports’ Ross Martin, the development is why the program didn’t share anything on social media, despite their alum Drake Maye leading the Patriots to a primetime win over Josh Allen led the Buffalo Bills. Maye played for UNC from 2021 to 2023 before being picked third overall last year.

Belichick had a historical tenure with the Patriots before parting ways with the program in January 2024. He led the franchise to six Super Bowl titles. However, over the last few months, the tension between the UNC head coach and the NFL franchise has flared up because of several reasons.

Nonetheless, the report paved the way for varying reactions from fans, most of which were sounding off on Belichick.

“going down as one of the worst hires in ACC football history. An embarrassment on and off the field,” one fan wrote.

“it’s getting harder and harder defending this dude,” another fan commented.

“Hubert Davis has to love the fact that there’s a bigger disaster on campus than him right now,” one fan sarcastically added.

“What recruit wants to play for a coach that doesn’t give a damn about his players. Hurting their chances to go to the NFL by blocking scouts – even if it’s just one team, who says the Pats wouldn’t love a kid that ends up UDFA? Now can’t talk about their star QB alum either?” one fan summed up what it’s like as a player to be under Belichick.

“This actually pissed me off… Drake Maye is one of the best to come through UNC. Class act and loves his school/state. I’m really starting to dislike Bill,” another fan added.

“He is such an abysmally petty pudgy old man,” one fan wrote.

What’s Going On Between Patriots and Bill Belichick?

After 24 seasons, Bill Belichick’s association with the Patriots came to an end in January last year. In his last season with the Patriots, he posted a 4-13 record.

Following the bitter exit, after Belichick became the head coach of the Tar Heels, he has denied any visit to the program’s training facility for scouts associated with the Patriots. Belichick cited a strained relationship with the NFL franchise for doing so.

“It’s clear that I’m not welcome around their facility, so [they’re] not welcome at ours. Pretty simple,” Belichick told reporters.

In the meantime, Belichick’s college football debut isn’t going any better. Last week, they lost to the Clemson Tigers. They are 14th in the ACC with a 2-3 overall record.
