‘You Cant Compete With That’: Coach Prime’s Blunt Reply on Dry Recruiting Spell at Colorado

Deion Sanders’ run at Colorado has created a lot of noise in the football world, be it due to his flashy personality or all the hype he has gotten in the last two years.

While Coach Prime’s first year was not ideal, as they ended the season with an overall record of 4-8, the 2024 college football season was different for the Buffaloes.

Not only did Coach Prime help produce a Heisman Trophy winner in Travis Hunter, they ended the year with an overall record of 9-4 along with Bowl eligibility.

Despite this, Deion Sanders has had a bit of a tough recruiting spell for the 2026 class, securing commitments from just five players.

When asked about how NIL is impacting the college football world, Coach Prime said it’s hard competing with teams that spend millions of dollars in NIL, like Ohio State’s $20M roster in 2024.

Demanding a salary cap and sharing his opinion on the situation, Sanders said:

“I wish there was a cap like, the top of the line player makes this, and if you’re not that type of guy, you know you’re not that guy, you’re not gonna make that. That’s what the NFL does. So the problem is, you got a guy that’s not that darn good, but he could go to another school and give him a half a million dollars, and you can’t, you can’t compete with that. That don’t make sense. That you talk about equality.”

“All you gotta do is look at the College Football Playoff and see what those teams spent, and you’ll understand darn well why they’re in the playoffs,” Coach Prime added. “It’s kinda hard to compete with someone who is getting $25-$30 million to a freshman class. It’s crazy.”

Coach Prime Gives an Update on His Health at Big 12 Media Days

Coach Prime’s health has been a matter of concern for the college football fans. He took a few weeks off and spent his time resting at his Texas home as he was reportedly suffering from an unspecified illness that resulted in him losing 14 pounds.

During his Big 12 media Days appearance, Sanders was asked about his health issues, which he refused to talk about.

“I’m really not going to tell you much. I’m not going to talk about my health. I living good. I’m living lovely. Not a care in the world.”

Sanders also added that he’s back now, as proven by his Big 12 Media Day appearance and will soon return to Boulder, Colorado.
