How Many Years of Eligibility Does Thomas Castellanos Have Left?

Former Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos joins Florida State via the portal. With a reunion under OC Gus Malzahn, he now leads FSU, but for how long?

Former Boston College Eagles quarterback Thomas Castellanos made headlines when he committed to the Florida State Seminoles on Dec. 11, 2024. In a major transfer portal win, Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell wasted no time securing a dynamic playmaker for his offense.

The move also sparked an unexpected reunion, as FSU State coordinator Gus Malzahn had previously coached Castellanos during his time at UCF Knights.

When Will Thomas Castellanos Declare for the NFL Draft?

Castellanos first stepped onto the college football stage with UCF in 2022, where he saw limited action, completing five passes for 75 yards in five games. Seeking a bigger role, he transferred to Boston College after his freshman season and quickly made his mark.

Now, with his sights set on Florida State, he’s poised to take over as the Seminoles’ starting quarterback. But the big question remains: How long will Castellanos play at Tallahassee?

Castellanos quickly made a name for himself as a two-year starter at BC, proving his ability to adapt under different coaching regimes. He started 12 games as a sophomore in 2023 under Jeff Hafley before continuing his role in 2024 under first-year head coach Bill O’Brien.

Despite playing just eight games last season, Castellanos showcased his efficiency, completing 61.5% of his passes for 1,366 yards, 18 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.

However, Castellanos’ time at Boston College came to an abrupt end in the final weeks of the 2024 season when he was replaced by junior Grayson James against Syracuse on Nov. 9. Now, with just one year of eligibility left, he’s set to make his mark at Florida State before declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft.

Despite the ups and downs, Castellanos remains grateful for his journey, expressing appreciation for the Boston College staff and teammates who helped him grow during his time in college football.

Castellanos Is Quite Grateful for His Time at Chestnut Hill

Thomas Castellanos has long been a thorn in Florida State’s side, making his arrival in Tallahassee all the more intriguing. Back in 2023, he led Boston College on a dominant unbeaten run until the Seminoles ended that streak on Sept. 16.

Still, Castellanos made sure Florida State fans broke a sweat in 2023, nearly engineering a late-game comeback with 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. But he didn’t have to wait long for payback.

He got his revenge in 2024, leading Boston College to a commanding 28-13 victory over the Seminoles, proving he was more than just a scrappy underdog.

But he still acknowledged his time with the Eagles, and thanked everybody who has always supported him.

“First I want to say thank you to the fans and entire BC community for the past two years I’ve been blessed enough to play here. I genuinely appreciate all the support you’ve given me and I will cherish the memories and relationships I’ve made. Thank you to the two groups of amazing coaches who have taught me invaluable lessons on and off the field. Thank you to the men who I’ve played alongside who have now become brothers,” Castellanos wrote in a statement posted on his X account.

“More than anything I’ve grown in faith and love and I appreciate every opportunity I’ve been given and worked towards during my time here. I’ve had some of the best experiences of my life in the Eagles Nest and I will truly cherish these memories forever.

“Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, even though it’s sooner than I would like. I will trust in God and his plan for me on my journey. Eagles Nest you’ll always have a special place in my heart,” he wrote.

Castellanos is joining the Seminoles as a dual-threat weapon who will strengthen their offense alongside Gus Malzahn, who ranked No. 132 nationally in total offense last season.
