The transfer portal has once again shaken up the landscape of women’s college basketball, creating a frenzy of player movement that could dramatically alter the contenders for next year’s title.
With big names switching schools, the balance of power is shifting. We’re breaking down the top five teams positioned to capitalize on the portal’s chaos and emerge as early favorites in the 2025 season.

Top Transfer Portal Women’s Basketball Teams Through Week 2 of the Window
1. TCU Horned Frogs
TCU just had the best season in program history. They made it to the Elite Eight for the first time, but most of the players that got them there are now gone. Madison Conner, Sedona Prince, and Hailey Van Lith were the big three for the Horned Frogs, and all of them are gone, but TCU has found some great replacements.
Olivia Miles, projected to be the number two pick in this year’s WNBA draft, decided to forgo the draft and transfer to TCU. 6-foot-7 center Clara Silva has transferred from Kentucky to join the Horned Frogs.
Though she didn’t play heavy minutes (12.1 mpg) last season, she still averaged over a block a game. With Miles and Silva, coach Mark Campbell will be able to have the same type of combination he had last year with Van Lith and Prince.
2. South Carolina Gamecocks
South Carolina made it to the National Championship game this year but fell short to Paige Bueckers and the UConn Huskies. Throughout the tournament, one of the main issues for the Gamecocks was their ability to generate offense when plays broke down.
Ta’Niya Latson will help add the best scorer in the country. Latson gives South Carolina a consistent perimeter creator and a player to take pressure off players like Chloe Kitts and MiLayshia Fulwiley.
3. Ole Miss Rebels
Ole Miss has lost a large portion of its team, including five seniors, four of whom were starters. The Rebels have entered the transfer portal and locked in a few talented players. Former Ohio State guard Cotie McMahon and senior forward Latasha Lattimore from Virginia are both transferring to Ole Miss.
Lattimore averaged 14 points and eight rebounds last year for the Cavaliers, and McMahon led the Buckeyes in scoring at over 16 points per game. Both highly coveted players in this transfer portal should make an instant impact for the Rebels.
4. Maryland Terrapins
Maryland made it to the Elite Eight last year and played well against the runner-up South Carolina Gamecocks. One of the Terrapins’ stars, Shyanne Sellers, is off to the WNBA draft, where she is a potential lottery pick, but landing Yarden Garzon in the transfer portal can help replace Sellers’ production.
Garzon has shot over 42% from three in her three years at Indiana, and the 6-foot-3 guard will add size and scoring to this Maryland team. She will also add great spacing and marksmanship for the Terrapins this season.
5. Oklahoma State Cowgirls
Oklahoma State was the seventh seed in the tournament this year and got upset by South Dakota State in the Round of 64. The 25-7 Cowgirls have lost three starters to graduation, but they have done well in replacing them up to this point.

In the transfer portal, Oklahoma State has acquired guards Haleigh Timmer from South Dakota State and Amari Whiting from BYU.
Timmer was part of the reason the Cowgirls did not advance past the first round. She scored 11 points in the matchup with Oklahoma State. Whiting adds scoring and good guard rebounding, as she averaged over five rebounds a game last year for the Cougars.
