A WNBA draft prospect, Meet the family behind North Carolina State’s Aziaha James.
James is a senior guard for the North Carolina State Wolfpack of the Atlantic Coast Conference. She joined the Wolfpack in 2021 after being rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN. She was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) All-Freshman Team in her first year.
In her sophomore year, She averaged 6.8 points and 2.3 assists per game and was named first-team All-ACC in her junior season. She helped NC State reach the Final Four of the 2024 NCAA tournament, its first appearance since 1998, and earned most outstanding player honors for the Portland 4 Regional.

Who are Aziaha James’ parents?
James grew up in Virginia Beach. There isn’t any available report on who her father is, but her mother’s name is LaToya Jackson. James has two brothers, Ashley James and Isaiah Macer. Ashley “AJ” James also played basketball, but he passed away tragically in an accidental shooting.
James credits AJ for teaching her everything she knows. Both siblings became the first siblings to be named All-Tidewater in Virginia. In 2020, Ashley James was killed in an accidental shooting just a few hours after watching Aziaha play in a regional high school championship game. He was 19.
What’s next for Aziaha James?
James was invited to the 2025 WNBA draft, something she’s been dreaming of and preparing for. In 2024, she attended Kelsey Plum’s second annual Dawg Class, a three-day camp designed to help top women college athletes transition from collegiate to professional basketball.
James finished her senior season with 17.9 points, 2.6 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game. She is entering the WNBA Draft with All-ACC First Team honors, a spot on the John R. Wooden Award ballot, and an AP All-America Honorable Mention.
James’ draft projections vary across various outlets, but one thing is constant: her abilities. The 22-year-old is a scorer, a shot creator, a ball-hawk defender, and a player whose development progressed as the years went by.
