Meet Aneesah Morrow’s Family: The Driving Force Behind Her Basketball Stardom

Born on Feb. 2, 2003, in Chicago, Illinois, Morrow grew up in a household where sports weren’t just a pastime but a way of life. Her parents, Edward and Nafeesah Morrow, starred at the University of Nebraska—Edward as a linebacker for the Cornhuskers football team and Nafeesah as an all-conference forward for the women’s basketball program.

Nafeesah was key in leading Nebraska to its first NCAA Tournament win. Though originally recruited by Doug Bruno at DePaul, she chose Nebraska to avoid the distractions of staying close to home. Edward’s football journey added another layer to the family’s rich athletic legacy.

Morrow’s path was shaped by both her environment and her family. Growing up on Chicago’s South Side came with hardships. After LSU’s 80–73 win over NC State in the Sweet 16 on March 28, 2025, she opened up about her past:

“I’ve seen things I shouldn’t have seen. I’ve been in the crossfire, I’ve been through it all, like honestly being on the southside.”

She credits her parents with giving her the strength to stay focused.

“I’m honestly just overall grateful. My parents have been through a lot of stuff, and I’ve been through a lot of stuff… And honestly, because of the sacrifices they’ve made for me, I go out and, not only on the court but off the court, I’m a student-athlete. I make sure that I take care of my grades academically, and I never want them to worry about anything.”

That competitive spirit runs through the whole family. Her brother, Ed Morrow Jr., played at Simeon Career Academy, Nebraska, and Marquette. Her sister, Nazlah Morrow, competed at Miami Dade before joining Morrow at DePaul.

“My family is super close,” Morrow said. “That’s how I was introduced to basketball — being around my mother and father. My mother coached almost all of us.”
