March Madness is already a spectacle on its own. Many programs have seen their men’s or women’s basketball teams advance all the way to the Final Four. However, only a select few have managed to pull off this double dip in college basketball dominance. But just how often has it happened, and which schools have joined this elite club?

Which Schools Have Sent Both Teams to the Final Four in the Same Season?
The first program to accomplish this feat was Georgia in 1983. The Bulldogs made history when both their men’s and women’s teams advanced to the Final Four in the same season. Since then, only a handful of schools have matched this achievement.
- Georgia Bulldogs (1983)
- Duke Blue Devils (1999)
- Oklahoma Sooners (2002)
- Texas Longorns (2003)
- Michigan State Spartans (2005)
- LSU Tigers (2006)
- Louisville Cardinals (2013)
- Syracuse Orange (2016)
- South Carolina Gamecocks (2017)
UConn: The Gold Standard for Basketball Excellence
While multiple schools have reached the Final Four with both teams, one university has repeatedly dominated this conversation—the UConn Huskies. The Huskies have achieved this feat an astonishing five times. Not only that but they are the only program to have won both the men’s and women’s championships in the same year—twice!
The Huskies kicked off their dominance in 2004 when both teams cut down the nets. Then, both teams reached the Final Four in 2009 and 2011 before cutting down the nets again in 2014. Most recently, both Huskies teams reached the Final Four last season.
With a track record like this, it’s no wonder UConn is considered the ultimate basketball powerhouse.

With over 350 Division I schools competing in men’s and women’s basketball, only 15 instances of dual Final Four appearances have occurred.
