On Monday, Vanderbilt announced that Khamil Pierre is no longer part of the program. Coach Shea Ralph released a message, wishing one of their leading contributors from last season good luck on her next destination.
Pierre has appeared in 65 games and started in 43 for Vanderbilt. She averaged 14.6 points (47.2% FG), 1.4 assists, 7.4 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. Last season, she saw a major uptick in her production, with Pierre averaging 20.4 points (on 49.8% shooting from the field), 9.6 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 2.1 assists. She led the team in rebounding and steals while being second to Mikayla Blakes (23.3 ppg) in scoring.
Let’s take a look at the destinations that Pierre can stop by to continue to college basketball career.
LSU Tigers
Pierre will find it nice to play under Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers, who regularly compete for national titles. LSU has lost a lot of players to the portal, so adding someone like Pierre should be a no-brainer. She will complement LSU’s frontcourt and raise their title chances.
South Carolina Gamecocks
Another team that will sit well with Khamil Pierre’s offensive identity will be Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks, who have been a regular threat in the NCAA Tournament. Pierre’s defensive tenacity (2.9 steals/game) fits perfectly and will make her an attractive option to look at for Staley.
Texas Longhorns
Texas is in win-now mode. They need a rebounding forward with scoring prowess, and Pierre fits that bill. Fans of Austin have been vocal for a reliable forward and Pierre could be the missing piece that could thrust them as national title contenders.
Miami Hurricanes
After adding top-tier talent like Ra Shaya Kyle through the portal, the Hurricanes are building a championship-contending roster. They’ll need an interior force and Pierre could be that person. Pierre’s ability to slot in immediately at forward, stretch floors, and lock down defensively makes her a high-impact upgrade.
Ole Miss Rebels
Ole Miss just added Latasha Lattimore, a post presence, via the portal. They would like to pair Lattimore with just as good a talent to dominate inside the paint and Pierre slots in that role. If that happens, Ole Miss will dominate the Southeastern Conference from inside the paint and pose challenge for contending teams to earn a win against them.
Apart from the above-mentioned teams, the Arizona Wildcats can also be a destination Pierre considers, given she is from Phoenix and played her high school basketball at Perry in Queen Creek, Arizona.
