Tennessee Lady Vols Reach Pivotal Mark in Kim Caldwell Era

The Tennessee Lady Vols have taken a significant step forward in their rebuilding process under first-year head coach Kim Caldwell. With their latest victory, securing another undefeated week, Tennessee climbed to No. 11 in the latest AP Poll.

This four-spot jump from their previous ranking of No. 15 marks the highest position they have held since Caldwell assumed leadership. As the Lady Vols approach the final week of the regular season, their upward trajectory continues to generate national attention.

Lady Vols Achieve Highest AP Ranking Under Kim Caldwell

Since making their first appearance in the AP Poll in December at No. 19, Tennessee has remained a consistent presence in the rankings. Despite entering Caldwell’s debut season with limited expectations, the Lady Vols have demonstrated consistent growth throughout the campaign.

As of this week, Tennessee is the fourth-highest-ranked team in the SEC. They trail only No. 1 Texas, No. 6 South Carolina, and No. 7 LSU, three of the sport’s most dominant programs.

Tennessee’s steady improvement is a direct result of its strong performances in recent weeks. Most recently, the Lady Vols secured a critical 88-80 victory over No. 18 Alabama in front of a home crowd. Guard Jewel Spear, who contributed 20 points to lead “UT” to victory, was outstanding.

Following their win against Alabama, Tennessee carried its momentum into its next game, securing an 86-78 road victory over Florida.

Guard Talaysia Cooper played a crucial role in that contest, finishing with 18 points to help the Lady Vols extend their winning streak. These two wins further strengthened Tennessee’s overall record, improving it to 21-6 on the season while going 8-6 in SEC play.

As Tennessee heads into the final week of the regular season, they are in a strong position to make a deep run in both the SEC and NCAA Tournaments.

They currently hold a top-four seed projection, which would allow them to host NCAA Tournament games in the opening rounds.

Tennessee Prepares for Final Regular Season Matchups

With two games remaining in the regular season, the Lady Vols will first travel to face No. 15 Kentucky in a crucial conference tilt on Thursday.

After their road contest against Kentucky, Tennessee will return home to close out their regular season against Georgia. A strong showing in these final two games would solidify their status as a top-four seed and further bolster their resume ahead of the postseason.
