Southeastern Louisiana Hires Jeff Dow as Next Head Coach, Sets Sky High Expectations

The Southeastern Louisiana Lions announced this week that Jeff Dow would be hired as the next women’s basketball coach. Dow’s hiring follows the resignation of Ayla Guzzardo, who left the team to become the head coach at McNeese State.

Dow comes to Hammond, Louisiana, after six years at Incarnate Word, where he led the team to its first-ever Southland Conference tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth.

Expectations Sky-High After Jeff Dow Hired as Southeastern Louisiana’s Next Head Coach

Jeff Dow has 12 years of head coaching experience at Division I schools, including one season at UTSA and five at Louisiana-Monroe before being hired at Incarnate Word.

During his time with the Cardinals, Dow compiled an above-.500 record, including the team’s first-ever Southland conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.

“Our family is excited to embrace the Hammond, America community,” Dow said in an SLU press release.

“I’m thankful to (University president) Dr. (William) Wainwright and Jay Artigues for providing me the incredible honor of leading a Southeastern Louisiana University program that has established itself as one of the premier programs in the Southland Conference.”

Dow has extensive coaching experience outside of head positions in Division I schools. He started his career in 1989 at the University of Oregon, where he was a graduate assistant before taking over as the head coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville in 1990. He led the Lady Javelinas until 1992, moving to New Mexico State to become an assistant coach.

After four years with the Aggies, Dow moved to UC Irvine as an assistant coach before taking over at UTSA for one year as interim head coach. In 2000, he became an assistant coach at Santa Clara before moving to Colorado State in 2002.
