Sophie Cunningham has been resting a lot lately after suffering from a gruesome season-ending injury in the WNBA. While playing against the Connecticut Sun for the Indiana Fever, Cunningham suffered from an MCL tear, making her join Caitlin Clark on the sidelines.
So, how is Sophie Cunningham spending her time recovering? She shows us glimpses of the same through her activity on social media. On Instagram, she posted a story of herself basking in the sun in a graphic-print bikini on a pool day. Guess this was a much-needed break for her.
Besides, Sophie Cunningham has been active in podcasting as well. Although she might be out of game action, she has been quite busy with the weekly episodes of her podcast. As per Yahoo! Sports, veteran analyst Skip Bayless called Cunningham a ‘shrewd operator’ for benefitting from Caitlin Clark’s second season. However, that does not seem to be true, and she had earlier also dismissed Bayless’ claims that Clark was taking a mental break from the bullying in the league. Perhaps, she might even reply to this statement by Bayless in one of her podcast episodes.
Sophie Cunningham’s family members called out WNBA for not protecting their players
Sophie Cunningham picked up her MCL injury after colliding with Bria Hartley from the Connecticut Sun. While trying to do a layup, Hartley bumped and fell into Cunningham’s legs, causing her this gruesome injury. At that time, it wasn’t clear if this was a season-ending injury for Cunningham. But her sister and mom were not happy seeing her suffer, clutching her knees while lying on the floor.
Sophie Cunningham’s sister, Lindsey, took to X and wrote,
“@WNBA maybe you should focus less on fining players for commenting on your poor officiating & more about hiring officials that are able to call a consistent game and protect your athletes. Pathetic. Praying for you.”
Furthermore, in a now-deleted post, Cunningham’s mother called Hartley a ‘disgruntled player’ and accused her of being mean and causing trouble wherever she goes. This drew quite a lot of attention from fans and media, with Sophie Cunningham herself not wanting Bria Hartley to face the brunt of such accusations. Coach Stephanie White is facing a serious lack of players due to injuries, and the Indiana Fever is running on a thin depth within their roster.
