Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham was all out supportive of the recent viral Missouri Tigers football fan. This was one of the topics that Cunningham discussed in the most recent episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Cunningham’s co-host, West Wilson, brought up the topic as they were talking about the former’s vocal role on the Fever benches. The Missouri fan turned out to be Carter Avery, a close friend of both Cunningham and Wilson, as the 29-year-old was in favor of the stunt he pulled.
Avery had the chance to win $25,000 had he been able to hit a 45-yard field goal during the two-minute break of the first half of the Tigers and Kansas Jayhawks matchup on Saturday, Sept. 6. Avery had won a previous contest on Instagram that merited him the opportunity.
“I didn’t know that was Carter. That was the most badass damn thing that I have seen in a minute, and his wife, Laura, texted me a video and like I was, I didn’t know where it was at. Then, I looked. I was like, ‘Who is this legend?’ and I was going through my texts and it was her. She sent like, ‘Hey, that’s my husband,'” Cunningham said (25:07).
“I was like, ‘Oh, my God,’ and so, I’m going to give you a sign like that is so badass. Oh, my God,” she concluded.
Instead, much to the delight of Cunningham and the rest of the Missouri faithful, Avery went ahead and put his shirt up, with a message on his body that read ‘FKU.’ He proceeded to kick the ball towards the Kansas bench to a roaring Missouri home crowd.
Fortunately for the Tigers, they were able to overcome a Jayhawks lead and eventually win their second game of the 2025 college football season by 11 points, 42-31.
