Notre Dame Shooting Guard Sonia Citron looks set to be an early-round pick in this year’s WNBA Draft after playing a pivotal role in the Fighting Irish’s success this season. It is unlikely that the first-team All-ACC player will fall beyond the first round.

5 Potential WNBA Draft Landing Spots for Sonia Citron
While Citron’s stats may not seem flashy at first glance, averaging 14.1 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists, where the Notre Dame Guard really thrives is on the defensive side of the game. Citron was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team
Since Citron joined Notre Dame, she has transformed the program, making three Sweet Sixteen appearances in the span of three years. The Guard plays pivotal roles in their runs each year.
Washington Mystics
According to ESPN and the CFN Mock Draft, we can expect Citron to go extremely early in the first round—as early as the third pick, to be exact. The Washington Mystics currently have three picks in the first round and will be looking for a WNBA-ready Guard to fit into the team this season.
Connecticut Sun
After going through a rebuilding phase over the Spring, the Connecticut Sun have one glaring need in their team looking at their roster.
Currently, their three guards, Lindsay Allen, Yvonne Anderson, and Diamond DeShields, are all 30 or above. As we’ve already seen Connecticut move on some of its veterans, Citron could be the perfect draft pick to lock down that position for years to come.
Chicago Sky
The Chicago Sky will be looking to improve significantly this year with their hopes pinned on Angel Reese after finishing 6th in the East Conference Division and failing to make the postseason.
GM Jeff Pagliocca will be looking to see some results this season, and Citron is the perfect kind of low-risk, high-reward draft pick that will give you consistency across an entire schedule, which is exactly what Pagliocca needs right now.
Golden State Valkyries
The Golden State Valkyries are set to compete for the first time this year, having already recruited youngsters and experienced players alike, such as Kate Martin and Tiffany Hayes.
If Citron is still available by the time they have their pick, then adding another significant threat to their backcourt means they can allow the Notre Dame Guard to rotate in and out while developing, learning from the experienced Tiffany Hayes.

Indiana Fever
While Indiana Fever certainly improved last season following the Drafting of WNBA Superstar Caitlin Clarke, one area they did struggle in was defence. They allowed 107.5 points per 100 possessions in the regular season last year, the second-worst defensive rating in the league.
A potential fix to this problem would be to draft Citron, the ACC All-Defensive Team player.
With a whole host of potential suitors who would fit her talents, Citron, despite not being the flashiest prospect, will be in High Demand this year as the WNBA Draft kicks off Monday at 7:30 pm EST for the first round.
