“Hopefully Someone Gives Me a Third Try” – Former Maryland Star Shyanne Sellers Breaks Silence After WNBA Double Waiver Stint and Long Road Back

Former Maryland star Shyanne Sellers has not had the start to her pro career that she hoped. While she was selected in the second round of the 2025 WNBA draft by the Golden State Valkyries, Sellers was waived. She was later picked up by the Atlanta Dream before getting waived again.

A big reason she has not been able to stick on a WNBA roster is because of an injury she has been dealing with in her right knee. She posted on TikTok earlier this week to discuss her injury, getting waived and her future.

Sellers went on to speak about her experience getting waived by the Valkyries and Dream. While the 22-year-old said she had fun with both of them, she was hurt more with Valkyries’ exit because they were the team that drafted her.

Sellers opened up on her injury issues, which played a key role in getting her waived.

“I know everybody is like, she’s not healthy. I was getting told I was healthy. Had three doctor’s appointments, got healthy, apparently. Basically I was passing all the physicals because my knee was structurally sound. They found out that my right leg was 22% weaker than my left leg. I finished rehab like a week ago, and basically, my right knee is the same as my left knee.”

Shyane Sellers continued talking to her fans, speaking about what is next for her.

“Yeah, basically, I’m all healed up now, just waiting for an opportunity. Hopefully, someone gives me a third try. Make an impact somewhere if I just get the opportunity to show who I really am.”

Shyanne Sellers Is Determined To Get Her Career Back on Track

While it would be easy for Shyanne Sellers to feel dejected after getting waived twice to start her WNBA career, she appears to be in good spirits. In the TikTok video, Shellers appeared confident that she would get another opportunity, and now that she is healthy, she thinks she can have an impact on a WNBA roster.

Sellers played four seasons at Maryland before entering the 2025 WNBA draft. This past season, she averaged 14.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. While she is waiting for a WNBA opportunity, she has the option to take her talents overseas so that she stays in game shape.
