‘Just Complete Awful’: Paige Bueckers Jokes Geno Auriemma Wouldn’t Hold Back After Watching Her All-Star Game

For the first time in her career, Paige Bueckers is a WNBA All-Star, and she is one of the rare few who have become an All-Star in their rookie year. She played in Team Collier, which defeated the Caitlin Clark-less Team Clark, 151-131. However, Bueckers, a former UConn Husky, admitted that her old coach, Geno Auriemma, would not have been happy with her performance that night.

With the game already winding down, Bueckers was asked how her old Huskies coach would react to her performance, and she did a bit of an impression of him.

“Just complete awful, uh, disturbing demonstration of basketball on both ends of the floor,” she said.

Bueckers played in her first All-Star Game for 22 minutes, though she only had six points, two rebounds and eight assists, shooting two-for-six from the field. She did have the second-most assists in the game, and she did it as a rookie.

Bueckers was voted as an All-Star starter and was chosen by team captain Napheesa Collier to play in her squad. She averaged 18.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game as a rookie for the Dallas Wings, shooting 44.9% from the field, 32.8% from behind the arc and 84.4% from the free-throw line.

Under Geno Auriemma, Paige Bueckers led the UConn Huskies to the national title last April. Since it was already her senior year, she left the school and entered the WNBA draft, where she was drafted No. 1 overall by the Dallas Wings.

Angel Reese Comments on Finally Getting To Team Up With Paige Bueckers at WNBA All-Star Game

Meanwhile, one of Paige Bueckers’ old college and high school rivals, Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky, has finally gotten to team up with her after all those years. The former LSU Tiger told WNBA reporter Kari Bell before Saturday night’s big game that she found it good that she is finally playing alongside Bueckers instead of against her.

“I’ve known Paige for a long time. We were the No. 1 and No. 2 players in our class, so we’ve been in a relationship for a really long time,” Angel Reese told the WNBA reporter. “It’s good to finally be able to play together instead of playing against each other.”

Both Reese and Bueckers were part of the 2020 recruiting class, with the two being the standouts of the class, with No. 2 Reese going to Maryland before transferring to LSU in her junior year, while No. 1 Bueckers stayed at UConn for all five years and four seasons in college.
