Paige Bueckers became the first pick at the 2025 WNBA draft after winning the national championship with UConn. In her redshirt senior season, Paige Bueckers led Geno Auriemma’s team to its record 12th NCAA title. After a dream season, Bueckers showed why she was picked number 1 in the WNBA draft.
She won Rookie of the Year. Despite the Wings’ poor season, Bueckers was probably the only big positive coming out of Dallas. Recently, Bueckers linked up with another UConn legend who very well knows a thing or two about being the first pick at the draft, winning Rookie of the Year and NCAA title. Paige and Diana Taurasi recently went head-to-head for multiple golf challenges. During which Bueckers shared her experience of the draft.
Paige talked about how nervous she was before the draft.
“So how nervous were you on draft day,” Taurasi asked at 2:40, “I mean you knew you were gonna go number 1.”
“I was actually very nervous right before they were about to call number 1,” Paige answered. She then revealed her almost wardrobe malfunction. She shared while laughing, “I sweat out my sticky tape. So my b**bs almost came out.”
Diana Taurasi heartily laughed as Paige continued, “I was like damn why did I get so nervous. I wasn’t tryna flash anybody on national TV.” Taurasi added, “The stickies went out, I was like Paige just hold them tatas down.”

Taurasi messed with Paige and asked if Geno Auriemma commented or criticised Paige about her defensive game. Taurasi said, “Does coach ever text you, ‘Hey, Paige, you getting lazy on backside defense.'”
Paige flexed, “Nah, he doesn’t really talk about my defense cuz it’s so good. Just offense.” Taurasi asked if Geno Auriemma gives Paige advice about her offense.
Bueckers said, “Yeah, he had actually stuff to say to me after the 44-point game, too. [He said] That I shouldn’t have passed up the last shot.” Taurasi asked if her teammate made the shot or missed it. Bueckers said that even though her teammate missed it, she would still do it again.
During their golf challenge, Paige had the chance to win if she had hit more than 176 yards. Diana then joked, “Alright Paige for the win. She’d probably pass.” Bueckers went hysterically and gestured to give her golf club to Taurasi. Diana did end up winning that challenge as Paige could only hit 166 yards.
