The Oklahoma women’s basketball team, led by head coach Jennie Baranczyk, scored a major recruiting victory with the commitment of four-star guard Finley Chastain. Ranked No. 2 at her position and No. 21 overall in the 2027 class by 247Sports, Chastain becomes the first player to commit to the Sooners in that cycle.
Her decision highlights the momentum building within Baranczyk’s program and positions Oklahoma for long-term success. Chastain’s pledge reflects the program’s rising profile and offers a glimpse into what could be a transformative era under Baranczyk’s leadership.
Oklahoma’s First 2027 Signee Brings Star Power to Backcourt
Oklahoma has added a major piece to its future with the commitment of five-star guard Finley Chastain, one of the nation’s most coveted recruits in the 2027 class.
Chastain, who previously gave an early verbal commitment to Tennessee as an eighth-grader, re-entered the recruiting process and ultimately chose Oklahoma over other high-major programs, including Iowa, Oklahoma State, and North Carolina. She is the Sooners’ first pledge in the 2027 cycle.

Chastain’s arrival continues a strong recruiting trend under fifth-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk. Oklahoma previously secured commitments from top 2025 recruit Aaliyah Chavez and highly ranked prospects Keziah Lofton and Brooklyn Stewart. If Chastain signs, she will be the second-highest rated recruit in program history, trailing only Chavez.
Regarded as one of the top perimeter threats in her class, Chastain is known for her deep shooting range, smooth left-handed release, and consistency beyond the arc. Her scoring ability forces defenses to stretch, giving Oklahoma another valuable weapon on the outside.
In addition to her shooting, Chastain is praised for her advanced understanding of the game. Evaluators cite her ability to manage tempo, make sharp decisions, and read defensive coverages—all of which align with Baranczyk’s high-IQ, fast-paced style of play.
While Chastain is a natural point guard, her size and versatility allow her to play off the ball as well. She can initiate offense, thrive in pick-and-roll situations, and knock down shots in catch-and-shoot settings. Her skill set will complement other elite guards like Chavez, creating a dynamic, interchangeable backcourt.

Chastain’s work ethic and competitiveness also stand out. Despite her ranking, she plays with a chip on her shoulder and sets a strong example with her effort, attributes that will strengthen team culture and continuity when paired with Oklahoma’s current trajectory.
While she has committed to the Sooners, she is a rising high school junior, so she still has much of her recruitment process left before she joins the ranks of college ball.
