Aaliyah Chavez continues to prove why she’s the No. 1 girls basketball recruit in the nation, and her latest performance at the 2025 Jordan Brand Classic only added to her legacy.
The Oklahoma commit and the top-ranked player in the Class of 2025 was named MVP of the prestigious event Friday night in Washington, D.C., after putting up an impressive 24 points, five assists, and five steals to lead Team Flight to a 128-108 victory.
She also knocked down five three-pointers, showcasing her elite shooting range and clutch ability on a national stage.

Chavez’s MVP performance helped neutralize a record-setting 28-point game from Nyla Brooks, a 6’2″ forward from Bishop Ireton (VA), who is headed to North Carolina. But even with Brooks lighting up the scoreboard, it was Chavez who stole the show with her complete and dynamic game.
The 5’11” point guard from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, already has one of the most decorated prep careers in recent memory. Chavez scored nearly 5,000 career points while leading Monterey to its first state championship in 45 years.

Her long list of accolades includes McDonald’s All-American honors, Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year, and High School On SI’s National Player of the Year. Now, with her final high school all-star game behind her, Chavez has firmly cemented her place as a prep legend.
Chavez shocked the basketball world when she announced her commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners, turning down powerhouse programs like South Carolina, LSU, Texas, and Texas Tech. Her decision gives Oklahoma a cornerstone player to build around, and fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the future.
Her electric showing at the Jordan Brand Classic gave Sooner Nation another glimpse of what’s to come. With her elite scoring, court vision, and ability to take over games, Chavez is already being talked about as a future program-changing player for Oklahoma.
