Morgan Maly went undrafted in the 2025 WNBA Draft, but seemed to find her way back by signing a training camp contract with the Connecticut Suns. That dream lasted less than a week, however, as the team’s front office waived the former Creighton University star on Saturday.

Morgan Maly’s Career Setback
The news was announced on the team’s official website and social media accounts. The Suns did not give any details as to why they made this decision with Maly.

However, this is a fairly common situation in the WNBA preseason. Even many of the players selected in the draft do not make their debut every year because they are waived, largely due to the league’s salary cap.
Each team can have up to 12 players on its roster, but it is common for teams to limit themselves to 11 players due to the salary cap. This significantly reduces the number of available spots for new players, and only big stars like Caitlin Clark or Paige Bueckers can aspire to play as rookies.
Maly has not reacted to this new twist in her career on social media. The 23-year-old guard-forward still has a small chance that another WNBA team will claim her contract within 48 hours of her being waived.
If that doesn’t happen (which is the most likely scenario) Maly will have to make some tough decisions. She can try her luck in international leagues (e.g. in Europe), or she can wait until next season and try to get a WNBA contract through a training camp. She can also try to find a way to use both options.

Maly played five seasons for the Creighton Blue Jays. In 150 games, she averaged 26.2 minutes, 13.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. She shot 50% from two-point range, 37.1% from the perimeter,r and 87.8% on free throws.
Among the major accomplishments of her career is that she surpassed the 2,000 points scored mark, finishing with 2,072.
