Months After Transfer Portal Move, MiLaysia Fulwiley Reunites With Former South Carolina Teammate For Team USA 3×3 Basketball

South Carolina star Joyce Edwards is reuniting with former teammate Milaysia Fulwiley, who entered the transfer portal in late April, for the 3×3 Women’s Nations League Team USA. Fulwiley has since committed to the LSU Lady Tigers, coached by Kim Mulkey.

The FIBA 3×3 Nations League is a fairly recent competition, having started in 2017. The competition is played in two categories for each gender, U21 and U23. Teams play in designated regional conferences. The winners of each conference advance to the finals. This year, it will also serve as a qualification route for the 2025 FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup, with the conference winners qualifying for the event.

The 2025 FIBA 3×3 Nations League America Conferences encounters will be played between July 21 and July 27 in Punta Arenas, Chile. This will be MiLaysia Fulwiley’s Team USA debut. The US’s roster will be made up of Taylor Bigby, Joyce Edwards, MiLaysia Fulwiley, Zee Spearman, Rachel Ullstrom, and Serena Sundell.

Kim Mulkey on receiving former South Carolina’s MiLaysia Fulwiley at LSU

When Kim Mulkey spoke about MiLaysia Fulwiley joining the LSU Lady Tigers, she cracked a joke at members of the press. She focused on Fulwiley’s stature, somewhat anybody would think Mulkey should’ve known before bringing her into the program.

“She’s taller than I realized,” Mulkey told The Advocate in a recent interview.

Nonetheless, she didn’t go into depth about whether or not the former South Carolina Gamecock would be a starter or not:

“I just know that I’ve got tremendous perimeter players,” Mulkey said, “and it’s my job to figure out who needs to play with who and who’s gonna be the point guard when that group’s in the game and who can move over to the wing.”

However, she did have some words of praise for Fulwiley:

“She’s just got a maturity about her when you talk to her,” Mulkey said. “She already knows our players. I think people didn’t believe that was the first time she’s made her visit. She made her decision based on what she played against and who she played against and who she wanted to play with.”

Dawn Staley also spoke about Fulwiley with the press recently. According to South Carolina’s coach, Dawn Staley, she had a lot of growth in the last year, and in her opinion, it will be LSU who will be reaping the rewards of that growth now.
