MiLaysia Fulwiley’s Slick Move During 3×3 Nationals Matchup Draws Hilarious Reaction From Kim Mulkey’s Assistant

MiLaysia Fulwiley, Joyce Edwards and the rest of the USA Basketball Women’s 3×3 squad had a dominant run during the FIBA Americas 3×3 Nationals in Chile, winning all five stops of the regional 3×3 event so far. As usual, the LSU transferee showed off her slick moves against some of the best players in the Americas.

In one move, Fulwiley broke the ankles of one of her Canadian defenders, ending up with a step-back 2-pointer from behind the arc. This move impressed many, but LSU assistant coach Gary Redus had some jokes at Fulwiley’s expense on his Instagram stories.

“You jab’d her off the camera @laywitdabutter,” Redus wrote in his caption.

Here is the video of that ankle-breaker that led to the USA Basketball win:

The United States won the tournaments for Stop 2, 3, 4 and 5, meaning that the Americans have had a dominant run of the tournament so far, losing only their Stop 1 semifinal, with Chile winning Stop 1. They will still have to play the sixth and final stop, which the Americans are still the favorites to win.

The Women’s team will be playing in Pool A for Stop 6 of the 3×3 Nations League on Sunday, opening their campaign with a rematch against Canada, followed by a showdown against Argentina, before going on to the knockout stages again.

In the FIBA 3×3 Nations League, a series of six three-game tournaments across seven days is played, with each team fielding six team members who can substitute for each day’s four-person entry. The team that gets the highest number of points will qualify for the 3×3 U23 World Cup in China from Sept. 17-21.

As for whether the Americans can get to China, they do not even need to win a single game in Stop 6. Each team is awarded points depending on how they placed in the tournament, with 1st place getting 100 points and second place getting 70 and so on. Last-place teams get 50 points and that is all the Americans need to book their tickets to China.

Currently, the Americans lead with 470 points, with Chile at second place with 410. Should the Americans get fifth place with 50 points, they would finish the tournament with 520 total. Should this happen and Chile win it all with 100 points, the team only gets 510 points, meaning win or lose, the Americans are still moving on to the World Championships.
