Maryland women’s basketball has Indiana standout Yarden Garzon, as per On3sports. The 6’3″ guard from Israel committed to the Terrapins shortly after entering the portal on March 31 with a “do not contact” tag—indicating her destination was likely predetermined.

Garzon, who started all 97 games of her Indiana career, averaged 12.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists over three seasons. Her junior campaign in 2024-25 was her best yet, leading the Hoosiers in scoring with 14.4 points per game while adding 5.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
She also hit 40.7% of her shots from beyond the arc on 5.8 attempts per game.
Renowned for her perimeter accuracy, Garzon is Indiana’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made (220) and 3-point percentage (42.6%). Her sophomore season included a career-high 47.2% clip from long range, and she earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors in both 2023-24 and 2024-25.
Defensively, she contributed 1.3 steals and 0.6 blocks per contest, rounding out her impact as a two-way player.
Garzon now joins a Maryland team coming off a 19-14 season and an NCAA Tournament berth. With the departure of several key players, her arrival addresses a major need for head coach Brenda Frese. Garzon’s ability to stretch defenses and play multiple roles on the floor gives the Terrapins a valuable boost as they prepare for the 2025-26 season.

With Christina Dalce, a 6’2″ forward, expected to depart, Merkle is likely to step into the starting center role for coach Brenda Frese’s squad.
