LSU basketball sensation Flau’jae Johnson and LSU football wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr. are both stars in their own right, but their recent social media exchange after the BET Awards has fans swooning and teammates cheering.
In addition to her on-court stardom for the LSU women’s basketball team, Johnson has made a career in the music industry as a rapper. She was recently honored at the BET Awards, to which Hilton responded with praise on social media.

Johnson’s reaction was also full of love. She sent back an emoji kiss. Her followers showered the post with likes and encouraging comments, constantly highlighting that the bond between the couple is real.

The BET Awards were a huge deal for Johnson. She was up for Sportswoman of the Year, sharing the spotlight with big names like gymnast Simone Biles and new French Open women’s champion Coco Gauff.
The nomination wasn’t just about her skills on the basketball court, where she helped lead LSU to the NCAA Elite Eight and picked up All-Conference honors. It was also about her influence as a rapper and cultural figure.
A Relationship Built on Fun and Support
Johnson and Hilton Jr.’s relationship began with a memorable first meeting at a campus game show. Johnson talked about it in an episode of her podcast, “Best of Both Worlds with Flau’Jae.”
“We met at this game show… I walked in that door, I see him — I looked at him, I said, ‘Oh no’ — I walked back out the door real quick,” Johnson said. “I had to gather myself. So I’m like, talking to him and stuff like that, but he not feeling me for real, or at least I thought he wasn’t feeling me. Cause he was acting real lame.”
She initially mistook Hilton Jr’s shy, mellow demeanor for disinterest, but soon realized he was just quiet and reserved.
Their connection quickly deepened after the event, as Johnson made the first move by messaging Hilton Jr. on Instagram.
She described the early days fondly. “It was crazy ’cause I was texting him as I was taking off on my flight to Greece, and we started talking when I was in Greece,” Johnson said.
“This is how I really knew I liked him — because in Greece, it was like 4 a.m., and here it was like 4 p.m. I was staying up ’til 4 a.m. just to text him a couple of little sentences… That’s my pookie. For me, it was like, ooh, at first sight, like I was like, ‘Oh my lord’.”
These moments of late-night texting and instant chemistry set the foundation for a relationship filled with affection and mutual support.
Their relationship quickly became public, debuting with matching Christmas pajamas in a festive Instagram post captioned, “Santa listened.”
Playful bets have become a hallmark of their romance, like the time they wagered on which of their themed photoshoots would go viral, with Hilton’s pick ultimately winning out.
As Johnson continues her basketball dominance on the court and rapping prowess in the studio, Hilton is gearing up for his senior year with the Bayou Bengals.
