Lauren Betts Reacts With 2 Words as Sister Sienna Dominates in U19 USA Basketball Victory
UCLA-bound five-star power forward Sienna Betts will be joining her sister, Lauren Betts at her new school soon. Before that, however, she suited up for flag and country to represent Team USA during the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup in the Czech Republic.
The Americans opened their U19 campaign on Saturday against South Korea, and it was a dominating performance for the team as it led the entire game and finished the Koreans off with an 81-point domination, 134-53.
Sienna Betts led the Americans with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists in that dominating victory over the Koreans. This led her elder sister, Lauren Betts, to comment on USA Basketball’s post regarding Sienna and the national team.
It was a defensive clinic from the Americans as their defense frustrated the Korean offense, with them clamping down in the second quarter to only allow their opponents to score eight points during that period. This was also a historic win for Team USA, as they broke the U19 scoring record in a single game with their 134-point performance.
She spoke about her team’s performance after the game.
“All of my teammates were smart in recognizing that mismatch on the low block,” she said. “I’m proud of my teammates for doing what was best to win, and that was to score on the low block mainly.”
As for Lauren Betts, one of the reasons she chose to stay one more year at UCLA instead of playing in the WNBA was so that she could play with her sister, Sienna, who was the No. 2 overall prospect from the Class of 2025 and its No. 1 power forward. The two sisters are expected to become a force in the paint for UCLA, with Lauren being one of the most dominant centers in women’s college basketball right now.
What Is Next For Sienna Betts and Team USA After Dominant Win Vs. South Korea?
That record-breaking win over South Korea is only the opener for the group stage campaign for Team USA. They still have two games to go, though the Americans are largely considered the favorites to win Group A and move on to the knockout stages with a perfect record.
With No. 2-ranked Sienna Betts anchoring the team in the paint, Team USA will next take on Hungary in Group A action, and it will happen on Monday. After that, the Americans are scheduled to take on Israel on Tuesday.
