Chloe Kitts, Tessa Johnson, Raven Johnson and More South Carolina Stars Show Off ‘Champion Work’ at Training

The South Carolina Gamecocks, coached by Dawn Staley, are going all out in their preparations for the 2025-26 season. On Monday, July 28, South Carolina Women’s Basketball‘s Instagram account shared a carousel post featuring Chloe Kitts, Tessa Johnson, and Raven Johnson, among others, training extensively.

In the caption, the Gamecocks’ social media team said that their players have been putting in a champion’s level of work, as they look to uncork another successful campaign next year. Several of the South Carolina faithful reacted excitedly to some of the team’s standouts, such as Kitts and Johnson, who were working hard during the offseason.

“Champions work here,” @gamecockwbb wrote in the Instagram post.

The post further shows the current crop of Gamecocks engaging in several on and off-court workouts. Kitts can be seen working on her jump shot, Raven Johnson is captured working on her squats with incoming freshman Ta’Niya Latson, while Tessa Johnson is working on her legs with the help of dumbbells. Several other players are seen working on both their game and their physical condition.

These include Agot Makeer, Maryam Dauda, Ayla McDowell, Maddy McDaniel, Madina Okot, and Adhel Tac, all of whom are part of the incoming 2025-26 roster for coach Staley’s Gamecocks. They are looking to add to the program’s three national championship titles.

In the recently concluded 2024-25 season, coach Staley and the Gamecocks’ pursuit of back-to-back national championships, given that they won in 2024, were foiled by the eventual national champions, the UConn Huskies. Geno Auriemma’s team won by 23 points, 82-59, during the 2025 NCAA title game. South Carolina eventually finished with an overall record of 35-4 (15-1, SEC), and they will look to avenge their NCAA title game loss in the upcoming season.

On Friday, July 25, the South Carolina Gamecocks’ social media team shared snaps of players like Chloe Kitts, Raven Johnson, and Tessa Johnson training at Williams-Brice Stadium, which is the home of the Gamecocks’ football team. In what seemed to be a cross-sport training session, several Gamecocks were captured running up and down the stands, carrying heavy bags and even doing runs on the field.

Coach Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks are heading into the 2025-26 season to win their third national title in the last five years and fourth in the program’s overall history.
