LSU Tigers women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey recently congratulated her collegiate football counterpart for their success at the start of the 2025 season. On Saturday, Aug. 30, LSU football coach Brian Kelly and his team won their campaign opener for this year’s college football season after they defeated No. 4 Clemson Tigers by seven points, 17-10, in away territory, Clemson’s home pitch of the Memorial Stadium.
Following this, coach Mulkey went over to her X/Twitter account to pen a heartfelt note for Kelly and his Tigers football squad after their stunning victory over Clemson, saying she is “proud” of both Kelly and the team. She sneakily added that she is eager to see them in “Death Valley next weekend”.
“So proud of @LSUfootball win tonight, but just as proud of the charge @CoachBrianKelly took for the team on the sideline…great form😉! See you in Death Valley next weekend! #GeauxTigers 💜💛🤍,” she wrote.

Backed by onlookers such as Mulkey and the LSU faithful, coach Kelly and his LSU squad pulled through from the Clemson home crowd as the nationally ranked No. 9 school in the country moved past the No. 4-ranked team. Starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier paved the way en route to the triumph after he set up standout tight end Trey’Dez Green with an eight-yard pass for the go-ahead touchdown and seal the deal in favor of LSU.
With the Tigers picking up their first season-opening win in a staggering six years, since 2019 when LSU went undefeated and won that year’s national championship, they now look to carry on that momentum over to their next game, which is on Saturday, Sept. 6, in a home game against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. For Mulkey and the women’s hoops squad, they are looking to win their second national championship in the upcoming 2025-26 season.
