Louisiana State University women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey has a lead role in rising hip-hop artist Flau’jae Johnson’s music video with Lil Wayne.
Johnson, the talented LSU Tigers guard and now a bona fide recording artist, expressed her excitement for the collaboration on social media. She included a post celebrating the release of “Came Out A Beast,” stating :
“Still Can’t Believe I Got Me On With WAYNEEEE! Talk about that #CameOutABeast Out Now!”

The music video prominently featured LSU players and energetic fans showing off their “Tiger Pride,” capturing the very essence of the program and who they are as a community.
Although Lil Wayne’s fame and Johnson’s growing musical reputation provided an A-list backdrop, it was Kim Mulkey who turned out to be the stand-out in the music video. The veteran coach got in front of the camera, and it was apparent, as it is on the court, that she is a person of presence and character.
Meanwhile, the dual career path faced by Johnson creates unique challenges requiring careful management. The talented guard made the unfortunate decision to postpone her concert on July 30 at Aisle 5 in Atlanta and issued a direct apology to fans through Instagram.
The cancellation followed the imagery of online backlash from recent social media posts in which she made comparisons between NBA players and WNBA players. Johnson handled it all with maturity and professionalism. She recognized the commitment her fans showed her, but also promised her fans there would be a concert in more good time.
Kim Mulkey’s Louisiana Legacy Earns Recognition Through Youth Empowerment Award
Mulkey has strong connections to Louisiana with championship playing, assistant coaching, and now head coaching experiences in the last role. Johnson being in the same music video as Mulkey signifies more than being in a guest shot.
Kim Mulkey was also recently announced to be receiving the 2025 Louisiana Youth Seminar Roddy Richard Life Achievement Award for her community service efforts outside of basketball! The award is given in recognition of her examples of strong leadership, community service, and the use of her platform through basketball to empower young people across all of Louisiana.
In the meantime, Lil Wayne keeps building his hip-hop royalty status with an approximated net worth of $170 million. The native of New Orleans is these days commemorating the 30th anniversary of his initial album, released in July 1995. His “Tha Carter VI Tour,” promoting his 14th studio album, launched on June 6, 2025, commenced at Madison Square Garden and continues across large U.S. cities until October.
