“I Don’t Know, Doesn’t Matter to Me”: Kim Mulkey Makes Feelings Clear on Playing MiLaysia Fulwiley

MiLaysia Fulwiley has been one of the most talented college basketball players for a few years now. In 2023, Fulwiley made her full debut for Dawn Staley’s South Carolina. She showed signs of excellence even in her debut. She scored 17 points, got 6 assists and 6 steals in a 100-71 win. However, she couldn’t find a permanent place in Staley’s plans. Kim Mulkey’s LSU signed Fulwiley this offseason.

Dawn Staley and MiLaysia Fulwiley kind of had a falling out last season when Fulwiley did not receive a lot of game time despite her good performances. Staley always had good things to say about Fulwiley; however, she did not fit in South Carolina. Now with LSU, Fulwiley would be looking for much more game time. Kim Mulkey recently shared what she thought about that.

The reporter asked if MiLaysia would be in the starting 5 or if she would come off the bench when the season starts. Kim answered at 9:29, “I don’t know, but doesn’t matter to me. She is going to play. She and Jada [Richard] are going to play together and it doesn’t matter. It does not matter.”

LSU HC shared how starting or coming off the bench doesn’t matter, and MiLaysia would be getting a lot of game time.

She continued, “You just want to be in that rotation of eight and you want to play extended minutes and long minutes and there was no MiLaysia, come here, you’re going to start. I promise you going in. No, no, no. That’s not how it operates. I play to win and Jada’s going to give her every bit of what she needs to give her to compete at that position. And man, they both bring good stuff to the table.”

Kim cleared up how a starting 5 position is not guaranteed, but how she values MiLaysia Fulwiley’s presence at LSU.

    MiLaysia Fulwiley’s LSU Debut

South Carolina transfer recently made her LSU debut in an exhibition game vs Mississippi College. MiLaysia Fulwiley scored 17 points in her debut as ZaKiyah Johnson led LSU with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

LSU emerged as comfortable winners with 148-46 vs Mississippi College. MiLaysia linked up well with her new teammates. Mikaylah Williams carried forward her good form from last season.
