Kelsey Plum’s ‘Tattletale’ About Caitlin Clark Draws Backlash From Fans: “They’re Their Own Worst Enemies” “Impossible To Root For This League”

LA Sparks star Kelsey Plum may have cracked a bad joke against Caitlin Clark in the post game conference after the WNBA All-Star festivities last week. The WNBA and WNBA Players Association are currently negotiating on the new collective bargaining agreement and things are not moving forward smoothly.

In a display of solidarity, before Saturday’s All-Star game, during the warmups, all players removed their jackets and put out a blunt message through their T-Shirts. The message on them read:

“Pay us what you owe us.”

However, in the post game presser, Plum took a shot at Team Clark, saying they were not present in the morning meeting when this bold step was discussed.

“It was a very powerful moment,” Plum told reporters. “As players, we didn’t know that that was going to happen. It was a genuine surprise. The t shirt was determined this morning. Not to tattletale: 0 members of Team Clark were very present for that.”

Plum’s joke may have caught nerves of some of the fans who fired back at the Sparks guard.

“What was the point of her saying that? They’re their own worst enemies,” one fan wrote.

“Impossible to root for this league,” another fan wrote.

“Why would she even say that?” one fan asked.

“I’m a new WNBA fan, why is she throwing shade at Clark?” another added.

One fan took a subtle jab at Plum, saying:

“For the life of me I can’t understand why so many of these athletes despise Caitlin Clark. She’s a world class athlete, once in a generation, and is poised to bring expansive revenues and interest to the league. You never have to like someone of you truly don’t like them but as business partners, which they all are, you have to work together for the common good yourselves and your league. This is petty. Pettiness doesn’t drive business outcomes.”

“That was a weird thing to say when she wore the shirt,” another fan said.

Caitlin Clark On The Motive Behind “Pay Us What You Owe Us” Message

The crowd at Indianapolis was fired up after seeing a solidarity and unity among top women’s college basketball stars. The message is clear. The players are not going to settle for pennies on dollars.

Before Saturday’s game, Caitlin Clark shared her thoughts behind this message.

“I think that’s one of the things that we’re in the room fighting for,” Clark said. “We should be paid more and, hopefully, that’s the case moving forward as the league continues to grow. I think that’s probably the most important thing that we’re in the room advocating about.”

With the current CBA set to expire on Oct. 31, both the WNBA and the players association need to find common ground.
