NWSL Stars Kelley O’Hara And Darian Jenkins Call Out Caitlin Clark for Kicking Soccer Ball Despite Groin Injury

Caitlin Clark has missed eight consecutive games so far. She is set to miss the next game against the Mercury as well due to a right groin injury. Clark got injured during the game against Connecticut on July 15 and has been out since.

While the Indiana Fever has done well in her absence, fans want to see Clark back on the floor as soon as possible. Amid the anticipation of her recovery timeline, a video of Clark playing soccer went viral, and it’s concerning Kelley O’Hara and Darian Jenkins as well.

Reacting to the video of Clark playing soccer on the Sports Are Fun! podcast, O’Hara, the 2012 London Olympic gold medalist, said:

“Another week of Caitlin Clark not resting her groin…This is a video of Caitlin kicking a soccer ball at maybe a charity or appearance or function or something, and [it’s] beyond me because you need a groin for that.” (From 45:19)

Jenkins chimed in with her take on the topic and outlined that the Fever needs Clark back in rotation.

“You need a groin. Your team needs you,” Jenkins said. “She’s already been out for her groin before. Didn’t she have something earlier this season? You’re too big of a star to be recorded doing that.”

Clark doesn’t just enjoy soccer, she used to be really good at it too. As a high school freshman, she played six games and scored 26 goals. Clark also made it to first-team all-state and was the only freshman to make the list.

Clark is a generational all around athlete, but as of now, it’s important for her to take care of her injury. The Fever are steadily moving toward the playoffs and they will need her back on the floor when the games get tougher.

Stephanie White Gave An Update On Caitlin Clark’s Injury

Amid the anticipation about Clark’s return, Fever head coach Stephanie White made an appearance on NBA Today to give an update. She said that they’re closely monitoring the situation and evaluating it on a day-to-day basis.

“It’s day-to-day right now,” White said. “We’re really just putting no timetable on it. Going through the rehab process, and then we want to reintegrate her from a strength and conditioning standpoint, and then get her back to basketball activities.”

“So we’re taking it one day at a time. We’re really slow rolling it, slow playing it this time,” she added.

Focusing on Clark’s long-term health is a good strategy. There’s no need to rush her in at the moment because the Fever have won five of their last eight games without her. They currently stand fifth in the league with a 17-13 record. Even though they are far from securing a playoff spot, the Fever are on track to make it to the postseason.
