As the first-team All-American has burst onto the national scene, questions have arose about her last name- specifically over whether she is related to Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts.
As fun as that story would be, she has no relation to her crosstown star, they just happen to be two sports stars with the last name Betts playing in Los Angeles.
While she may not be related to the former MVP, Betts still does come from an athletic family.
Her father, played basketball at Long Beach State and was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in the second round of the 1998 NBA Draft before spending most of his professional career playing overseas.
Her mother, Michelle, played volleyball at Long Beach State where she won the 1993 national championship.
Lauren’s younger sister Sienna will be joining her next year, as 2025’s No. 2 overall recruit, who has given a verbal commitment to the Bruins.

In March 2025, she became a part of Under Armour’s NIL Collegiate Class, joining the class with Kansas Jayhawk Flory Bidunga, Ohio State Buckeye Jaloni Cambridge, and South Carolina Gamecock Te-Hina Paopao, among others. But that’s just one of the many deals.
Betts has also joined C4 Energy’s “Bracket Breakers” campaign and ventured into the lifestyle and entertainment space with partnerships like JLab and Grandeur Models. She is using her social media reach and capitalizing on it, too.
Betts also has deals with The Den, HighlightHER, and Bumble on her roster of brands. With WME Sports backing her for NIL representation, Betts is making sure she’s not leaving any money on the table.
