Kate Harpring, a five-star point guard prospect who plays for Marist School in Atlanta, Georgia, is the top point guard and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Georgia. She was also recently announced as the 2024-25 Georgia Girls Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year.
The 5’10” prospect has been posting major highlights as her recruitment heats up, but many fans are wondering if she is related to former NBA player Matt Harpring.

Are Five-Star 2026 PG Kate Harpring and Former NBA Player Matt Harpring Related?
Matt Harpring is a former professional basketball player who played 11 seasons in the NBA. He was a four-year starter at Georgia Tech, where he had his jersey number 15 retired due to his exploits for the program. In the NBA, he spent time on Orlando, Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Utah.
And indeed, Kate Harpring is Matt’s daughter. Matt and his wife, Amanda, have five children, including Kate.
Kate currently holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, UNC, Tennessee, Iowa, LSU, and several others. There are reports she might favor Georgia Tech due to her father’s history with the school.
Matt finished his collegiate career as Georgia Tech’s second all-time leader in points (2,225) and rebounds (997). He is also the program’s all-time leader in free throws attempted (675) and made (508). In 2002, Harpring was selected to the ACC 50th Anniversary men’s basketball team as one of the fifty greatest players in ACC history.
The Orlando Magic selected him with the 15th pick in the first round of the 1998 NBA Draft, which culminated in his selection to the 1998-99 NBA All-Rookie First Team.
Following his time on the hardwood, he has a strong presence on social media, often sharing his thoughts and support for his daughter Kate’s basketball journey.
Kate Harpring is rated as the top-ranked recruit in the Class of 2026, according to 247Sports. The point guard led her high school team to a 29-3 record and reached the state semifinals before coming up just short against Creekside.
