    As UConn gears up for the 2025-26 women’s basketball campaign, Sarah Strong and Serah Williams are turning heads during early practices. Strong, a 6-foot-2 sophomore forward, returns after an exceptional freshman season where she posted 16.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while leading the Huskies in blocks and steals.

    Alongside her is Williams, a seasoned transfer from Wisconsin, whose frontcourt presence adds depth and maturity. The duo’s on-court chemistry and impact have quickly become a focal point, setting a strong tone for what promises to be a pivotal season in Storrs.

    The UConn Huskies are entering the 2025-26 season with an impressive frontcourt duo in Strong and Williams, who bring remarkable talent and experience to the team.

    Strong, who enjoyed a historic freshman campaign, quickly became one of college basketball’s most promising stars. The 6-foot-2 forward averaged 16.4 points and 8.9 rebounds throughout the season, leading the team in steals and blocks. Her impact was even greater postseason, averaging 19.0 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists.

    Strong capped off her freshman year with a 24-point, 15-rebound performance in the national title game. Known for her versatility and high basketball IQ, Strong’s outstanding passing and anticipation skills make her an indispensable player as she returns for her sophomore year.

    Joining Strong is transfer forward Williams, a 6-foot-4 Brooklyn native who brings proven skill and leadership from her time at Wisconsin. Williams, who played three seasons under former UConn assistant Marisa Moseley, averaged 19.2 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game during her junior season.

    A two-time All-Big Ten First Team selection and Defensive Player of the Year, Williams is expected to add both size and defensive strength to the Huskies. She has accumulated 1,494 points, 782 rebounds, and 211 blocks over her career, including 36 double-doubles. Williams said,

    “When I first stepped on campus at UConn and met the players and staff, it felt like the right place for me to spend my last year in college both on and off the court. The winning environment and atmosphere were everything I was looking for.”

    Head coach Geno Auriemma expressed enthusiasm about the addition:

    “I believe that Serah was one of the top players in the country, not only this past year, but in her career at Wisconsin. We’re absolutely thrilled to have her coming to Connecticut. She’s a great addition to our program. Her experience, her versatility and her ability to play at a really high level on both ends of the floor are going to be a great asset for us. I think as a person, she fits in perfectly with our team.”

    The Huskies’ roster also features talents like Jana El Alfy, Ice Brady, and Ayanna Patterson, further bolstering their frontcourt depth as they prepare for another competitive season.
