UConn’s Training Camp Heats Up This Summer

In all seriousness, Geno Auriemma’s squad is preparing for a big season and they will have to do so without Paige Bueckers, who has departed to the WNBA as the No. 1 pick by the Dallas Wings. She made UConn proud after being named All-Star in her rookie season.

We’re already two weeks into the ongoing summer sessions at UConn and the intensity among the players to win the national championship is commendable. Auriemma said as much while talking to the media at Hartford Golf Club ahead of his annual For the Kids charity golf tournament benefitting Connecticut Children’s.

“You can just see the way they walk around, you know, they’ve got this look about them, like, ‘I won a national championship,’” Auriemma said. “… This group is really, really, really competitive. I think they have higher standards now than they did before. They are holding themselves to higher standards. They’re holding each other to higher standards.”

A lot will depend on the likes of Azzi Fudd and Ayanna Patterson if UConn were to deliver again next season.
