Notre Dame basketball star Hannah Hidalgo has been invited to the 2025 USA Basketball Women’s AmeriCup Team Trials. She is one of 21 players selected for the trial. Through these trials, the squad for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile, will be announced.
On Wednesday, Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey shared a photo beaming with pride alongside Ivey at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs where the trials are taking place.
“Such a blessing to be a part of @usabasketball and to support and watch Hannah compete!! Proud of you @HannahHidalgo ☘️💚,” Ivey wrote on X.
Hidalgo wore the No. 25 USA jersey in the photo.

Ivey has previously recognized Hidalgo as the emerging face of women’s college basketball.
“She’s going to be the best player in the game,” Ivey said on SportsCenter in March. “She’s ready for it. Rising junior, somebody that has exploded on the stage since her freshman year, coming up, an incredible sophomore year. She’s just ready for it. I’m excited that she’s going to be the face of women’s basketball, but she’s earned it and deserves it.”
If Team USA wins the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, they will earn a direct qualification for the 2026 FIBA World Cup in Germany. Duke’s women’s basketball team head coach Kara Lawson will lead the team for the FIBA event.
How does Hannah Hidalgo’s resume stack up to earn the spot for AmeriCup?
Before Hannah Hidalgo started her journey with Notre Dame, she represented USA in the U17 and U19 Women’s World Cup teams in 2022 and 2023, respectively, and won gold medal on both occasions.
Moreover, Hidalgo is coming off a season where she averaged 23.8 points per game, which is a single-season record in Notre Dame history. She topped her freshman season as well, when she averaged 22.6 ppg. Apart from this, Hidalgo broke several Fighting Irish records, including single-season steals (160) and steals per game (4.6).
Hidalgo led the Fighting Irish to the Sweet 16 in the recently concluded NCAA tournament. In the process, she earned ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Her efforts led her to be named AP All-America First Team for the second straight season. When it comes to Notre Dame history, Hidalgo is already 18th with 1551 career points. She reached the 1000-point mark in just 44 games.
If Hidalgo is selected for the roster, she and other USA teammates will travel to Santiago, Chile, from June 28 to July 6 for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup. Team USA is in Group B and will face Colombia, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
