UConn Huskies coach Geno Auriemma, along with some of his former standouts, once talked about how great Chris Dailey is as an associate head coach. In July 2023, Auriemma, Sue Bird, and Morgan Tuck appeared on the season finale of The Connecticut Forum entitled “Husky Nation!” on YouTube.
They were asked by host Kimberly Martin to describe, in their own words, what Chris Dailey is to them. Coach Auriemma said she is the most complete person he knows and even used a hilarious analogy that resonated with the crowd listening to him.
“Annoying… Ain’t you guys go to Catholic school? She tried to be a nun, but she was too strict. I would say. She’s probably the most thorough, the most complete person in terms of how do I manage every single aspect of what goes on in our program. How do I have it all on my desk at the exact same time and get it all done in a way that no one else could do it better,” Auriemma said (0:26).
For now, both Auriemma and Dailey are coming off a success-filled 2024-25 season, which was the 40th year of their partnership at UConn. They finished the year with an overall record of 37-3 (18-0, Big East) and went all the way to the 2025 NCAA championship game.

In the championship game, they defeated coach Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks, 82-59, to win their 12th NCAA title.
Sue Bird gives her take on Chris Dailey
On the 2023 season finale of The Connecticut Forum, former Seattle Storm star and now WNBA legend Sue Bird gave her take on her alma mater’s associate coach, Chris Dailey.
Bird bounced off the points raised by her former coach, Geno Auriemma, as well as former UConn Huskies standout Morgan Tuck, as she detailed how great Dailey was at her job.
“I think she is consistent. Sometimes consistently annoying, yes, but consistent, dependable. When Morgan says backbone, we think of the UConn success and all the games that are won, and especially the consistency of that over how long you guys been here? 38 years, obviously a lot has to do with Coach Auriemma for sure. But, it’s that consistency, that CD likes to be great every single day, to show up every single day to practice,” Bird said (2:20).
“She’s exactly the same. Her standards are super high. She expects that of you and never wavers. That is so hard. We all have bad days. It’s like, I’m sure CD has her own bad days, but we never saw that,” she continued.
Dailey and Auriemma will now enter their 41st season at the helm of the Huskies’ coaching staff in the 2025-26 season, where they aim to win back-to-back national championships and give UConn its 13th national title.
