In August, Azzi Fudd launched her podcast ‘Fudd Around And Find Out’, co-hosted by Ashanti Plummer. Since then, Fudd has had guests like KK Arnold, Rennae Stubbs, and others. This week, Fudd welcomed Geno Auriemma on her podcast.
Fudd has been playing for Coach Geno’s UConn Huskies program since 2021. He has been the head coach of the program since 1985. So, there were a lot of stories that they uncovered during their conversation.
The first question that Coach Geno was asked was whether he was surprised to know that Fudd had a podcast. The coach hilariously replied, “No, everybody has a podcast today.” He went on to reveal that he is being approached by companies to start his own podcast.
If that happens, it won’t be Auriemma’s first podcast. The 71-year-old revealed that he used to host a podcast back in the day and had conversations with Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, and others.
“I had a podcast before podcasts were popular,” Auriemma said (0:55). “And it was just me and my office, talking to guys like Kobe and Tiger and people that I liked.”
Fudd insisted that the coach should bring his podcast back.
“There’s a push to do that. So, we’re working on it,” he replied.
Coach said his podcast doesn’t have a name yet as they’re in the initial stages, but he’s confident that the name won’t be as catchy as Fudd’s podcast. It was also revealed that Auriemma used to be on a cooking show, made in conjunction with a local supermarket.
Geno Auriemma on What He Expects From Azzi Fudd
Over the last four years, Auriemma has seen Fudd develop into one of the best players in the country.
Now, she’s headed toward the end of her college career, and there are certain things that he wants to see in her.
“Someone said recently that the biggest risk a person can take is not to take a risk,” Auriemma said (14:55). “So, I think that’s the next step for her is to be a risk taker. Not like Paige, you can’t be like that.”
“There are various kinds of risks, should I go for that steal or not?” Auriemma added. “So whenever we are practicing and we are going to practice our press, or we are gonna do something. I am always thinking, where the hell are we gonna put her, because when you are pressing and you are really aggressive, you need people that are gonna take a chance.”
Coach Geno said Fudd is “conservative” on the defensive end of the floor. He wants her to be willing to take more risks in order to elevate her game.
