UConn Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma had a pleasant time having his former star Paige Bueckers over at the Huskies’ practice facility this weekend. Once again, it was just like old times between coach Auriemma and Bueckers. In fact, the spirits were running quite high and jokes were up galore amongst the Huskies.
Auriemma seems proud to mention that Paige is now a player in the WNBA, and more so, the Rookie of the Year from last season. However, it seems like he didn’t miss pulling her leg with a hilarious imitation of the Dallas Wings star in front of rest of the team. In a video posted by the Huskies’ Instagram page, Auriemma tried mimicking Bueckers whenever she got a play wrong on the court.

Auriemma described the time when Bueckers tried going for a steal against an NC State player during the Elite Eight in the 2022 NCAA tournament. Bueckers got caught in flare screen, resulting in a three from NC State, driving the game to double overtime.
However, UConn won the game 91-87 with Bueckers finishing the night scoring 27 points. Auriemma described the moment how Bueckers approached the bench in a very animated manner.
Bueckers was not willing to admit she messed up and got hilariously raged about it. That’s when Auriemma pointed out how Paige tends to get animated during such heat of moments and had a good laugh about it. Surely, he does miss having Paige Bueckers on the squad since she graduated to the W.
Geno Auriemma compares Paige Bueckers’ return to UConn as having ‘Dennis the Menace’ back
Geno Auriemma was probably the happiest to see Paige Bueckers coming back to UConn. Bueckers came back with former UConn standout Aaliyah Edwards to the Huskies’ practice facility.
Seems like nothing has changed in the bond between coach Auriemma and Bueckers. In a press conference after the practice, Auriemma said,
“The other one is like having Dennis the Menace back on campus. You know what’s funny is, there’s just a different vibe. Even today, there’s just a different vibe when [Bueckers and Edwards are] there. It’s great to reminisce on a lot of things. It’s great to see that they haven’t changed much, and yet, it’s great to see how different they are, just in the short time that they’ve been away.”
Surely, some things never change. And one of them is definitely Auriemma and Buckers’ relationship. He is definitely proud to see his college kids shine in the W and contend for the championship the same way they did in the NCAA Tournaments.
