Johnson was sidelined due to a shin inflammation, which has lingered since before her performance against Texas. LSU head coach Kim Mulkey decided to sit Johnson to prevent further injury despite the junior guard’s determination to play through the pain.
“I know she’s trying to mask the pain she’s in,” Mulkey said via NOLA.com. “We’ll get that inflammation down, and we’ll see the Flau’Jae that we need to see when we start playoffs.”

Mulkey has even more reason why Johnson should not appear on the court just yet. The ninth-ranked team will enter the SEC Tournament as the No. 3 seed despite losing two final regular-season games to Alabama and Ole Miss.
Averaging 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game this season, Johnson leads LSU in scoring. But Mulkey believed that her absence will not affect the team’s playoff chances . Meanwhile, LSU will play the winner of the second-round matchup between No. 6 seed Alabama and the winner of the game between No. 14 seed Auburn and No. 11 seed Florida.
