Diana Taurasi Sends Strong Message on Fever’s Playoff Potential With Caitlin Clark

Recently, there’s been some debate as to whether the Indiana Fever are better without Caitlin Clark. The star point guard has been without her team for nine games, of which the team has won six. So, a narrative that the team performs more smoothly without Clark has begun to take shape.

Not for Diana Taurasi. The WNBA star is clear in that she wouldn’t want to face a Fever team with a healthy Caitlin Clark. Speaking with USA Today Sports in an interview released this Friday, Taurasi said the following about Clark and the Fever:

“I would not want to play the Indiana Fever in the playoffs, especially with a healthy Caitlin. I mean, that building… I got a little taste of it last year. Someone who can really change the game in a couple of moments like she can… she could be quiet for 10 minutes and then it’s four threes, and the game’s out of reach.”

“What the Fever are doing without her, that’s going to help them in the future, too, knowing that they can win a game when she’s on the court or she’s not at her best. So, yeah, that Fever team, I would not want to play them with a healthy Caitlin.” (11:44)

The biggest problem for Clark this year has been durability. She has only played 13 games this season, compared to the 31 games played by the likes of Kelsey Mitchell or Aliyah Boston. Her injury is a recurring groin injury, which reappeared in mid-July during a game with the Connecticut Sun. She had only been back four games after a five-game absence due to the original injury.

Candace Parker thinks the Indiana Fever is better with Caitlin Clark than without her

Another WNBA star voiced a similar opinion this week. Candace Sparker appeared on the “Post Moves” podcast and spoke about how silly it is for people to say that the Indiana Fever is better without Caitlin Clark than with her.

“For those naysayers out there who say they’re better without Caitlin. They’re not. They’re not better without Caitlin. But I do feel at times like this, different people step up. Just like Natasha Howard stepped up during the Michigan Cup. It can be a growth opportunity for teams. Like Caitlin is one of those people who has a high IQ. So I know she’s watching,”  said Parker

She went on to say that she expects Caitlin Clark to return and prove naysayers wrong about her. Park also said that the Fever are a scary team to face going into the playoffs.
