Former WNBA star Diana Taurasi recently made a startling revelation about her salary and compared it to a janitor’s. During her appearance on a podcast, Taurasi said she was surprised to learn that the janitor earned more than her.
A user by the name Clay Travis reshared the podcast on his X account while taking a swipe at the legendary women’s basketball player for taking a slight at a janitor’s salary. The user wrote:
“Diana Tauresi complains that janitors make more than her. I don’t know who advises women’s athletes, but ripping other people’s salaries as a way to justify your own is an awful look. Makes me personally think they deserve even less than they get.”
This started a wave of reactions from fans, who, in part, agreed with Travis.
“The janitors provide a service people want,” a fan wrote.

One fan called out Taurasi for sharing false information. The fan wrote:
“According to data, Diana Tauresi has total career earnings, including WNBA contracts, international play & endorsements from Nike & Body Armor exceeding $10M. There are ZERO janitors that have made this kind of $ AND none who have ever gotten brand deals. Insane Entitlement!”
“The fact that most people have never even heard of her might be a hint as to her market value,” another fan added.
One fan threw shade at the WNBA. The user wrote:
“The WNBA should be turned into an unpaid, untelevised adult rec league. Too much nonsense for the general public to be consistently exposed to.”
Another fan called out Taurasi, saying:
“Imagine having a 20 year career playing a kids game, complete with endorsements and quasi-celebrity status, retiring at ~45 and ready to capitalize off your fame and success. Then, launching into a complaint tour about how your life isn’t fair & you are owed more money.”
“Janitors perform essential services. There’s nothing essential about sports; especially the WNBA,” another fan took a slight at the women’s basketball league.
The recent comments show the fans are not necessarily happy about what Taurasi had to say about her salary and the player earnings in WNBA, which have become a hot topic of late. WNBA All-Stars stood in solidarity during the All-Star weekend amid CBA negotiations with the WNBA. Their message is clear: “Pay Us What You Owe Us.”
Diana Taurasi Highlights How Women Basketball Stars Make Their Ends Meet Due To Low WNBA Salary
NBA players don’t travel overseas to earn more, suggesting they just do enough playing a season in the US. However, for WNBA players, to make ends meet, they travel and play in overseas league, since their wages here in the US are not enough.
Diana Taurasi threw light on this fact, as she herself has done so despite being a legendary figure. She said on the podcast:
“I’m the best player in the world, and I have to go to a communist country to get paid like a capitalist. Playing in Europe during the WNBA’s off-season, these women were going for seven or eight months. They were chasing their value. One time I came back, and I was like, man, my parents have just gotten older, and I’ve missed a big part of it.
“We weren’t making that much money, so generational wealth was coming from going to Russia every year. Now we have to come back home and get paid nothing to play in a harder league, in worse conditions, against the best competition in the world.”
Add to that fact, that Taurasi learned that her salary was even lower than of a janitor. She added:
“The f**king janitor at the arena made more than me.”
It seems fans were not quite happy with her remarks, she’s doing all she can so that the current crop of WNBA stars don’t have to suffer the same fate as she did.
