Deion Sanders has built a legacy in both football and family. A Hall of Famer on the field and a headline-making coach off it, his children have carried that same competitive drive into their own athletic journeys.
The Sanders name has become synonymous with excellence across multiple levels of sport. The youngest of the group, Shelomi Sanders, has been carving out her own path in basketball and recently drew attention thanks to a proud message from her mother, Pilar Sanders.
Shelomi plays basketball at Alabama A&M University after transferring from Colorado. The 21-year-old guard has continued to grow her game, showing flashes of skill and determination that reflect her family’s athletic DNA.
Recently, Pilar Sanders took to Instagram to celebrate her daughter ahead of the new college basketball season. She shared a photo of Shelomi wearing her Alabama A&M jersey and holding a basketball.
“My gorgeous #22 yes ma’am @shelomisanders – @shilosanders and @shedeursanders babysis so u already know …. It’s time! FYI they’ve always come prepared,” she wrote.

Coach Prime himself has always been deeply involved in his children’s athletic journeys, whether through direct coaching or personal mentorship. While he is deeply involved in the head coaching responsibilities in Colorado, Coach Prime has had his own set of struggles lately.
Deion Sanders’ Recent Health Struggle
Sanders’ resilience off the field has been tested as much as his coaching decisions on it. Earlier this month, he revealed that he had undergone another surgical procedure related to recurring blood clot issues.
The operation lasted several hours, and though he is now recovering, it’s part of a long line of health challenges he has faced in recent years. These recurring clots have caused significant complications in his legs, forcing him to undergo multiple surgeries since 2021.
His health battles first became public when he lost two toes on his left foot due to poor circulation and blood clotting while coaching at Jackson State. In 2023, he required further surgeries to clear clots from both legs, narrowly avoiding more severe outcomes.
Then, in 2025, he revealed he had battled and beaten bladder cancer after an intense period of treatment and surgery. Despite these struggles, Deion has remained steadfast, continuing to coach Colorado and inspire those around him with his determination.
