Former South Carolina Gamecocks guard and current LSU Tigers standout MiLaysia Fulwiley is getting heaps of praise for her debut with her new team. On Wednesday, Nov. 5, Fulwiley and the rest of coach Kim Mulkey’s Tigers took on Drew Long’s Houston Baptist Huskies for their first game of the 2025-26 season and to open their non-conference schedule at Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
This was Fulwiley’s first official regular-season appearance as a member of the Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based squad, as she surprisingly made the transfer after spending her first two years with their conference rivals, coach Dawn Staley‘s South Carolina Gamecocks. Given that she is one of the most highly-touted slashers in current collegiate hoops, Fulwiley played a great game that got her the attention of many in the sport.
This includes Fulwiley’s own assistant coach, Gary Redus, who reposted a joint Instagram post by @posther.hoops and Fulwiley, which highlights her box score and performance in the game. Redus has served as a member of Coach Mulkey’s staff with the Tigers program since he joined in the 2022-23 campaign. He also tagged Fulwiley’s Instagram page in his upload along with a supportive emoji.

For her first time logging in minutes for the Tigers, Fulwiley dropped 21 points on an efficient 8-for-14 clip, four rebounds, two assists, seven steals, and two blocks in around 21 minutes of action. This was a great showing for both coach Redus and the rest of the Tigers faithful, as Fulwiley had a lot of hype ahead of joining LSU. The program is looking to win its second national title after the first one came in 2023.
