“I have to talk about this moment”: Candace Parker Pokes Fun at Dawn Staley’s Hilarious On-Air Persona

Former Tennessee Volunteers forward and Los Angeles Sparks star Candace Parker recently poked fun at South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley. On Wednesday, Aug. 13, Parker uploaded the latest episode of her “Post Moves” podcast with former Gamecocks stalwart and Indiana Fever rising star, Aliyah Boston.

In one instance of the 53-minute episode, Parker brought up a recent hilarious conversation between Boston and Staley on the CBS Sports Network.

“Aliyah, before we move on, I have to talk about this moment from the CBS broadcast the other night. There’s coach Dawn Staley on the mic. I mean, she’s going to put you on the spot. That’s what coaches do,” Parker said (29:50).

    Boston interrupted her, saying:

“She always puts me on the spot. I’m like, ‘You never just ask a regular question. You never just ask a regular question.'”

The clip in discussion is when Staley interviewed Boston during a pre-game segment on CBS Sports ahead of the Chicago Sky clash on Aug. 9, which Boston and her team won by 22 points, 92-70. The hilarious back-and-forth sequence between the Fever standout and her former coach was posted on X/Twitter by CBS Sports, where Staley was seen bugging out Boston with multiple questions.

In the clip, Boston playfully says:

“Stop it. How long they got your mic on? How long they got your mic on?

“When is the signature shoe coming out?” Staley asked.

“You just got to wait. It’s on the way. I can’t stand you. No, no, you’re done with questions,” Boston joked.

Much to Staley’s delight, Boston has enjoyed a stellar third year in the league, as she is averaging 15.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 blocks per contest so far to lead the Fever to an overall record of 18-15, good for the third seed in the Eastern Conference.

Candace Parker shares what she loves most about coach Dawn Staley

On the same podcast, WNBA legend Candace Parker revealed what she loves most about South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley.

For Parker, it boils down to how much the 55-year-old wants all of her players to succeed. In this case, it is Boston potentially joining Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson in having her own shoe.

“Here’s the thing that I love about coach Staley, she’s not satisfied with one player having a signature shoe that she coached. She wants two, and I love that because I think that’s pushing the game forward,” Parker said (30:35).

Staley and the incoming 2025-26 Gamecocks are looking to pursue their program’s fourth national title next season after winning two of the last five NCAA championships.
