“Hopefully, She Likes Women’s Basketball”: When Caitlin Clark Tried to Get Taylor Swift Courtside for Iowa–LSU Showdown

Former Iowa Hawkeyes sensation and current Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark once tried to get Taylor Swift to attend one of the most important games of her career. In April 2023, Clark famously led then-coach Lisa Bluder’s Hawkeyes to the national championship game, the first in the program’s history.

As Iowa was set to face its bitter non-conference rivals, the LSU Tigers, in the winner-take-all game, Clark was asked in a press conference about the ordering of tickets outselling American pop icon Taylor Swift‘s then “Eras Tour,” which had different dates and venues. The question was posed, as Clark is publicly known to be a long-time fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, where Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, plays.

“Hey, I’m going to Taylor Swift in June, too. That’s pretty awesome,” Clark said before revealing that if she got backstage access to one of Swift’s shows, it would be an opportunity for her to invite the pop star to the 2023 national championship game. “That would be cool. Hopefully, she likes women’s basketball. She should stay for the game tomorrow. How about that?”

Clark has long been a fan of the Chiefs and their standout tight end, Travis Kelce. When Kelce and Swift confirmed their relationship, Clark was one of the first few celebrities to congratulate them via social media.

Unfortunately for Clark and the rest of the Hawkeyes, they lost the national title game 102-85. Nevertheless, she emerged as one of the best college hoops stars, as she led Iowa back to the national title game in the next season, while shattering a plethora of records. She was chosen in that year’s WNBA Draft with the first overall pick by the Fever.

Travis Kelce And Caitlin Clark Previously Linked Up During A Taylor Swift Concert

In November 2024, on an episode of the “New Heights” podcast hosted by Travis and his brother Jason Kelce, the former revealed what it was like to meet Caitlin Clark during a Taylor Swift concert. The three-time Super Bowl champion expounded on how loyal a Swift fan Clark is, as she even brought her close ones to the show.

“She was into the show, for sure. She was there with her mom and a few friends. She had been, I think this is like her third or fourth show she had been to. She’s a Swiftie through and through. Man, yeah, loves the show. I went to night two. She had already been to night one. And, you know, I think she’s just having fun going up to the shows and taking her friends and family and getting everybody to experience Tay’ up there on stage,” Kelce shared.
