Former Iowa Star Caitlin Clark Pens Heartfelt Note For Ex-Teammate Gabbie Marshall’s Special Day

Caitlin Clark has had terrible injury luck in the WNBA this season. The former Iowa star has missed 13 straight games for her team as she is recovering from a right groin injury. Amid her rehab, the Fever guard celebrated her ex-teammate, Gabbie Marshall’s special day.

Marshall celebrated her 25th birthday on August 22. Clark took to Instagram stories to share a couple of pictures with her former teammate and penned a heartfelt note.

“Happy bday sweetie. I love you sm,” Clark wrote.

Marshall joined the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2019, a year before Clark arrived. They played together until 2024 and then entered the WNBA Draft the same year. While Clark was the number one pick in the draft, Marshall remained undrafted.

Since then, Clark has been scaling new heights of success in the world of basketball. Despite being in the WNBA for just one season so far, she is already recognized as one of the best players. If she hadn’t been sidelined because of the right groin injury, Clark would’ve broken more records this season.

Recently, Stephanie White talked about her star player’s injury and made her priorities clear on the subject.

“I know she wants to be out here on the floor, and we want her out here on the floor, but making sure that she’s ready is the most important thing. You know, I still don’t know how far we are. We’re gonna take it one step at a time, one day at a time, and go from there,” White said.

The Fever organization is hopeful that the reigning Rookie of the Year will join the team as they inch closer to the playoffs. They’re also currently dealing with the absence of Sophie Cunningham, who suffered a season-ending injury during the game against Connecticut.

Caitlin Clark Revealed Why She Chose Iowa Over Notre Dame and UConn

After Clark’s High School career, a lot of people were able to predict that she was going to be a great player in the future. While she has so far managed to surpass all expectations, Clark has had a lot of eyes on her as a talented point guard.

Usually, when players are so talented, they opt for programs that are popular so they can make a bank, earn a reputation before even entering the WNBA. But Clark had a different plan in mind. During a recent conversation with WNBA legend Sue Bird on Bird’s Eye View, Clark revealed why she chose Iowa.

“I think just her belief in me from day one when I stepped on campus — she gave me the keys to the offense, really the program, and always had a constant belief in what I could do and what I could help us achieve,” Clark said about her coach, Lisa Bluder (19:38).

Once she made that decision, the sky was the limit for Clark. She established herself as one of the greatest basketball players of all time at the collegiate level, without even winning the NCAA title.
