Ex-Gamecock Bree Hall Reveals Her Reaction to Dawn Staley’s Recruiting Call in Instagram ‘AMA’

Former South Carolina Gamecock Bree Hall has been one of the more accomplished women’s college basketball players in recent memory.

She had the honor of playing for some great South Carolina teams, where she won the national championship twice out of her four seasons. In a recent Instagram “Ask Me Anything”, also known as an “AMA,” she reminisced on her recruitment journey and how she ended up at South Carolina.

Hall’s Dream Became A Reality At A Young Age

Former South Carolina star Bree Hall shared an Instagram story this week, answering questions from fans. On user asked her, “What was your first thought when THE DAWN STALEY [sic] recruited you?” Although the story expired, she responded with a hilarious reaction photo.

Clearly, from the picture, she was very happy and celebrating with people in the background.

When Hall was drafted into the WNBA, her former head coach, Staley, was also ecstatic for her and offered her words of encouragement and advice.

While Hall was selected in the second round with the 20th pick by the Indiana Fever, she was cut several weeks later on May 5. Now, Hall is a free agent looking for her next opportunity.

    Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Legacy

Dawn Staley is one of the more influential figures in women’s basketball. As a player, she made it to the WNBA and played for seven seasons across two different teams. She was a five-time All-Star in seven seasons and made it to the Hall of Fame.

Staley became a women’s basketball head coach for the Temple Owls in the 2000-01 season, where she began her coaching career. Six out of her eight seasons as the head coach of the Owls, she took them to the NCAA Tournament.

After an impressive resume with Temple, she got to the SEC, a power-five school, where she was named the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2008.

Her first three seasons were disappointing for her, as they missed the tournament all three seasons and had losing records in two of them. However, from there, they made March Madness 13 of the next 14 seasons. Since then, Staley’s teams have made it to the Final Four seven times, including three national titles.

However, Staley also has an incredible impact of recruiting and developing her players and getting them to the next level. As mentioned earlier, Hall became the 17th Staley-coached player to get drafted in the WNBA. Some of the other notable players coached by Staley include A’ja Wilson, Aliyah Boston, Tiffany Mitchell, Allisha Gray, and Laeticia Amihere.
