Is Azzi Fudd Going to the WNBA? Exploring Her Draft Options

UConn Huskies star Azzi Fudd is finishing up her senior season of college basketball. However, she still has an extra year of eligibility and could decide to play one more year if she wants. Up until very recently, Fudd was undecided about whether to go pro.

Fudd was named to the First-Team All-Big East due to an impressive 2025 campaign. She averaged 12.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. Fudd also shot the ball better than ever before, with a career-high of 47.2%, including having her best year from beyond the arc, where she shot 43.4%. So, let’s explore her draft prospects.

Is Azzi Fudd Going to the WNBA?

Azzi Fudd’s father, Tim Fudd, spoke to CT Insider about the idea of his daughter foregoing her final year of eligibility and declaring for the WNBA Draft.

“Her motto all year is staying present in what’s happening right now,” Fudd told the publication. “It’s not a priority at this point in time to focus on that when they have an opportunity to do some really good things.

He continued, “It’s bittersweet for me. That’s probably the best word…I think, unfortunately, if this was the end, it’s sad to say that UConn probably didn’t see the best of Azzi, and the best of her game is still yet to come, which is going to be something quite, quite awesome to see.”

While Fudd was the country’s No. 1 recruit before committing to UConn in 2020, her career was unfortunately set back by injuries. She missed 11 games in her freshman year due to a stress reaction in her foot, and her knee caused her to miss 22 games in her sophomore year.

Unfortunately for Fudd, two games into her junior year, she tore her ACL in a practice and missed the remainder of the season. Then, she picked up another minor knee sprain in her senior year. In total, she has only played 66 games for UConn. So, it would make sense why she’d want one more season.

She also tore her ACL and MCL in high school. Given this lengthy injury history, maybe going pro now wouldn’t be the worst idea. She’s coming off arguably the best season in her career, and if she’s guaranteed to go in the first round, it seems like a no-brainer.

A team that could very well be interested in a player like Fudd is the Los Angeles Sparks. They acquired G Kelsey Plum this offseason, but the guard position still remains the Sparks’ thinnest area, and a player like Fudd could certainly fit in well there.

After going 8-32 last season, the Sparks look to get back on track and are off to a great start in the offseason with the Plum signing. However, drafting a player like Fudd could sweeten this signing even more.
