Azzi Fudd Drops 1-Word Comment on Confidence Levels After Paige Bueckers’ UConn Exit in 2025

Azzi Fudd and the UConn Huskies won the national championship last season. It was a culmination of a season of hard work for the players and coaching staff, but for Fudd, it was so much more. It was a return season for her after missing most of her junior year with an ACL tear in her right knee. As a result, being able to have an impact on a championship-winning team as a senior was emotional for Fudd.

While she had the opportunity to enter the 2025 WNBA draft, Azzi Fudd opted to return for a fifth college season. She still has a year of eligibility because she received medical redshirt status after playing only two games in her junior year because of her knee injury. Fortunately for her, she was able to stay healthy throughout most of her senior year.

Heading into her fifth season, the Huskies will be without superstar Paige Bueckers, who has started her WNBA career with the Dallas Wings. Last weekend, Fudd hosted the “Azzi Fudd Basketball Camp” for boys and girls aged seven to 18.

The day before the start of camp, Fudd was asked by CT Insider if her confidence levels were at an all-time high now, despite the departure of Paige Bueckers. She had a simple, one-word response:

    “Definitely”

Azzi Fudd’s Father Discusses Her Emotional Senior Season at UConn

This past season was not easy for Azzi Fudd. While she was healthy for the first time in years, it was an emotional time for her. Notably, she struggled with the decision to return to UConn. She did not know if it was wiser to return to college or start her WNBA career. Her father, Tim Fudd, spoke with CT Insider earlier this offseason about the struggles she went through.

“It was the hardest year she had ever had,” Tim Fudd said. “And as she was expressing herself, and kind of, not like whimpering, but just tears were coming down.”

Azzi Fudd eventually decided to return to UConn for one final season.

“She wiped her tears off her face, and she’s like, ‘I’m done with that,” Tim Fudd said. “We have six games to play, and the only thing that I’m worried about now is raising that trophy and celebrating this championship.”

Notably, this decision came a few weeks before UConn won the national championship.
