LSU Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey has done a good job of building the team’s women’s basketball program since taking the job in 2021. This offseason, she and her staff were able to bring in one of the biggest stars in the transfer portal, former South Carolina Gamecocks star MiLaysia Fulwiley.
The Gamecocks’ star played for South Carolina for the past two seasons but appeared to have stagnated on the Gamecocks roster. She fell into a role where she was a scoring threat off the bench. However, she did not get any starts last season. As a result, she entered the portal and joined the LSU Tigers.
On Tuesday, LSU Tigers assistant coach Gary Redus posted a photo dump on Instagram. In one of the photos, he can be seen sharing a moment with the Tigers’ latest star, MiLaysia Fulwiley. In the photo, Fulwiley and Redus are posing for a selfie on Redus’s phone.
“‘People only listen to you if you win… I intend to be heard’ -John Thompson,” Redus wrote in the caption.

Kim Mulkey Speaks About the Unknown for the LSU Tigers Next Season
Kim Mulkey has coached the LSU Tigers for the past four seasons, leading them to a national championship in 2023. While they did not replicate their championship success over the past two seasons, they still reached the Elite Eight both years. As a result, it has been an incredibly strong run for Mulkey and the Tigers.
However, heading into next season, there is a lot more uncertainty around the roster. Superstar Aneesah Morrow will not be back as she has begun her WNBA career. As a result, Flau’Jae Johnson will be expected to be the biggest offensive driver on the team. MiLaysia Fulwiley will also be expected to step into a big offensive role in her first season with the Tigers.
While there are a lot of unknown factors around the Tigers, Kim Mulkey spoke in early July about how that makes her excited.
“I think the exciting thing about the upcoming team is the unknown,” Mulkey said. “And the unknown is probably gonna be considered our post-game.
The Tigers have eight newcomers to their roster next season. Five freshman are starting their careers, and three transfers are coming in, including Fulwiley. As a result, Kim Mulkey will need to adapt to the team’s new roster if she wants to help them go on another deep run in March Madness.
